edition of 20! Flysch has an ability to bring both pain and pleasure to your listening experience and horizonal c.02 is another fine example of Derrick Spotts' masterly presentation of field recordings and noise music, a continuation of efforts previously heard on Strange Rules, Total Black and other reputable underground labels. This tape, in fact, follows horizonal c.01 released on Clandestine Compositions back in 2017.
Listening to Flysch, there's an impression of a deep respect for the medium. Nothing here comes across as an attempt to piggyback on trends or to imitate any previous innovators in experimental electronics, Flysch carves it's own path; from side A's tempered beginnings through the reverse's increasingly hysteric turbulance to finally subsiding with the broken, beaten tolling of bells. It's a punishing journey, but one well worth taking.
